‘Gandharva’ – 10 [Photos]

Joshi – Bedekar College organized the third intercollegiate cultural event, ‘Gandharva Mahotsav’ , successfully on 28th and 29th January 2010. The event was inaugurated by Shri. Abhijit Chavan – Alumni, and a renowned television artist.

‘Gandharva 10’ provided a platform for participants to explore and portray their talents. The festival featured several competitions for student fraternity as well as teachers. The events ranged from literary, creative, performing arts and sports based on this theme ‘India – 2010’. The theme was very well depicted by all the participants showing a fusion of traditional Indian essence with modern India in their performances.

Gandharva is a cultural festival where in students from various colleges, affiliated to University of Mumbai can participate and showcase their talents. This year we received excellent response from other colleges. Students from more than 40 colleges participated in various events and won prizes and Medals. Gandharva Mahotsav Committee decided to have two events for gurus, cooking (without fire) and solo singing. Teachers from other colleges participated in good number and appreciated the efforts.

For students participants, we had 14 events. ‘Body posing’ was a unique event, introduced in intercollegiate competitions for the first time. Quiz, debating, spelling bee, love letter writing, poster making, rangoli, solo singing, chess, carom were the events covering wide array of sports, performing arts, literary arts and fine arts.

On 29th January 2010, Ras Garba, group dance and fashion show competitions were conducted. An enthusiastic audience of more than 1000 students enjoyed the show.

A strong belief in our 150 volunteers, their energies, potentials were the pivotal resources that made Gandharva a successful event. A team of volunteers, along with Gandharva head Ashwin Dhakras, co-ordinator Prof. (Mrs.) Monika Deshpande, under the guidance and continuous encouragement of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Shakuntala A. Singh made Gandharva, a memorable event.
